We were on a casual hike near the Finger Lakes region of New York on Sunday (July 3rd of 2016) when we encountered a fuzzy yellow tabby sitting by himself on the trail. My father-in-law saw him and decided to position himself as approachable to this unsure cat. When he reached his arm out, the kitty trotted up to greet him. Jonesyy showered us with affection by rubbing and bunting us. We thought this cat couldn't possibly be abandoned because he seemed so friendly and clean and was probably an outdoor cat. We then continued with our hiking journey and Jonesyy kept up with us. He kept meowing at us. I started to realize he was telling us something. Maybe he was abandoned and hungry and wanted to go home. We took him home with us. He saw the vet and had an ear infection and ticks, and was no doubt abandoned by his previous owner. Boy were we wrong in the beginning to think he was not abandoned and was probably an outdoor cat. He's terrified of loud noises, especially fireworks, and can't really hunt either. If we didn't save him then, he would've been either dead or eaten by coyotes in the area. Now that he's 100% out of the woods, we are so happy with how he's regained his trust in people and be his happy self. We're so glad to be Jonesyy's purrents and let him live happily ever after.
